MEETING Wed. Nov. 8 at 7:00; SPEAKER: Amanda West Lewis
LOCATION: Toronto Public Library Northern District Branch, 40 Orchard View Blvd. (1 block N of Eglinton, W off Yonge), Room 224 (2nd floor).
Amanda West Lewis combines careers as an author, theatre director, calligrapher, book artist and instructor. Her first YA novel SEPTEMBER 17 was nominated for the Silver Birch and Red Cedar awards. Her most recent book THE PACT takes place in WW II Germany.
Amanda is the founder and artistic director of the Ottawa Children's Theatre which co-produced the 2015 premiere of UP TO LOW, based on the book by Brian Doyle. The sold-out show had rave reviews and will be re-mounted at the National Arts Centre in 2018.
Amanda will present a behind-the-scenes look at this theatrical adaptation, exploring the joys and struggles in bringing a book to life on the stage. She’ll also speak about some of the practicalities (“How on earth did you raise $100,000 to produce the show?”) and show slides from the production.
